Fragile X feels invisible
But its impact on our lives is very real
When I tell someone my son has Fragile X, the most common question is: “What’s that?”
Unlike physical disabilities or well-known neurodivergent conditions, Fragile X has slipped through the cracks. The result? Children and families are often misunderstood, underrepresented and unseen - until now.

Ollidore Books tells the stories that bring Fragile X into the light
I started this project to raise awareness, spark understanding, and celebrate the children who have transformed our lives – children living with a condition most of us once knew nothing about.
Through self-publishing, I’m able to share our stories directly, creating books that help children, families, and educators see Fragile X in ways that are rarely represented.
A children’s story that starts conversations
Our first book, inspired by my son Oliver, brings everyday moments to life in a way children can understand.
It helps kids see Fragile X in a relatable way and gives educators, therapists, and families a gentle tool to start conversations about differences, empathy, and inclusion.
Endorsed by the Fragile X Association of Australia, this book also has educational information at the end to help professionals develop their understanding of FXS.
Hi, I'm Melissa
Mum, author and FXS advocate
Working in a school I see how understanding, or the lack thereof, shapes children’s experiences.
Raising Oliver has shown me how powerful stories can be for teaching empathy, making children feel seen, and inspiring inclusive communities.
Through Ollidore Books, I share our experiences to help others understand Fragile X and celebrate differences.
